Emergency Management, a division of the NC Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, selected Trifolium to complete a two-phased approach to assist in determining the feasibility of incorporating automated responses to assist in the coordination of activities in response to local and/or widespread flooding within North Carolina. The Emergency Response System (ERS) envisioned by the floodplain-mapping group within Emergency Management builds upon a number of prior and on-going initiatives related to the Flood Inundation and Forecast Mapping System (FIFMS) under development by the NC Floodplain Mapping Program. The purpose of the FIFMS is to save lives and reduce property damage by providing emergency managers and the public with more timely, detailed and accurate information. The purpose of the ERS was to assist emergency response personnel by providing the following capabilities:
- Flexibly defined emergency response processes, tailored to localities as needed.
- Customized and automated monitoring of the gauge network for emergency indications.
- Initiation and execution of the defined emergency management response processes.
- Management information on all processes, events, and alerts in a dynamic and interactive fashion.
